Grants starting at $10,000 to Ontario nonprofit organizations to benefit the Northumberland County community and address its greatest needs. An Expression of Interest is required prior to submission of a full application. Eligible projects will align with the following focus areas: strengthening communities, addressing poverty, and supporting children, youth, and their families.

All funding is disbursed to programs and services that clearly align with United Way’s focus areas and investment strategies.

NUW has identified three focus areas to invest in the community where it has learned that there is the greatest need, and where it feels it is well-positioned to make a positive impact. These focus areas and investment strategies are:

Poverty to Possibility

  • Assist people to maintain housing and meet basic needs
  • Support those at risk of homelessness
  • Support training for employment opportunities

All That Kids Can Be

  • Support learning life skills
  • Increase inclusion in recreational opportunities and physical activities
  • Support mental health wellness through prevention and early intervention

Strong Communities

  •  Support access to information and/or resources
  •  Increase mental health support
  • In addition to the focus areas identified above, there are more detailed investment strategies and outcomes within each area.

These investment strategies are designed to address issues that really matter in Northumberland County. They are based on consultation with local residents, expert stakeholders, and local research.
