The program provides an important platform for local governments to learn from their peers by sharing success stories and showcasing initiatives that have had a meaningful impact on small business in their communities.

Award types:

  • The Open for Business Small Communities Award, recognizes the BC community with less than 5,000 residents, that best demonstrates their support of small business.
  • The Open for Business Medium Communities Award, recognizes the BC community with between 5,000 and 25,000 residents, that best demonstrates their support of small business.
  • The Open for Business Large Communities Award, recognizes the BC community with more than 25,000 residents, that best demonstrates their support of small business.

A business-friendly community is one that strives to:

  • Understand the needs of small businesses
  • Make the community more competitive
