Grants to Squamish, British Columbia nonprofit organizations and charities for community benefit programs. Funding may be used for programs in the areas of affordable and supportive housing, arts and culture, environment and sustainability, economic development, emergency assistance, First Nations reconciliation, heritage, recreation, social services, youth, and other community benefit programs.

Goals of the Community Grant Program are as follows:

  • To augment and support new or additional programming for social services that assist Squamish’s vulnerable populations
  • To support youth-based and youth-run initiatives
  • To encourage groups and communities to collaborate and leverage their resources to achieve desired outcomes;
  • To support arts, culture, heritage, and recreation
  • To support economic development-type projects managed by nonprofit organizations
  • To support environmental or sustainability-focused projects that benefit the community
  • To promote a healthy, caring, safe and supportive community for all

Eligible activities include:

  • Enhanced or expanded programming that is sustainable beyond year one without Community Grant funds
  • One-time operating expenses that support enhanced or expanded services or programming, and are not required to sustain ongoing operations of the organization or its programming
  • New or upgrades to infrastructure
  • Volunteer training
  • Performer, speaker, and entertainment fees
  • Project supplies
  • Professional legal fees
  • Fundraising Projects
  • Marketing, advertising, promotional materials, supplies and services
  • Facility rentals
  • Equipment rentals
  • Waste management
  • Traffic management
  • Permits and licensing excluding deposits
  • Other items may be deemed eligible by Council

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The District of Squamish accepts grant applications from not-for-profit organizations in Squamish.

The following persons are eligible to apply for a Grant:
- Non-profit organizations
- Charitable or philanthropic organizations located within the District
- Athletic or service clubs or associations
- Care facilities or licensed hospitals

The following are not eligible to apply for a Grant:
- Applicants not located or operating within the District
- Businesses or commercial enterprises
- Applicants seeking cash sponsorship for events
- Applications for Projects that are the responsibility of other levels of government except for partnerships where proof of joint funding from regional bodies, provincial or federal governments or agencies is supplied and that funding is equal to or exceeds District funding.

Not funded:
- Operating expenses needed to sustain basic, on-going operations
- Insurance for administration, vehicles, and buildings, etc.
- Mortgage and capital leases
- Purchases previously supported by other government funding such as education, health care, and other ministries
- Retroactive funding, operating or capital deficits
- Proposals from individuals
- Organizations with exclusionary or discriminatory membership eligibility criteria
- Proposals from organizations that have not met the conditions of Grants received in previous years
