Request a Grant Writer

Award of $5,000 to a Nova Scotia individual artist or group of artists to recognize excellence in artistic work that reflects Acadian values. Eligible artists may work in any artistic discipline. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of knowledge of arts practices, knowledge of the cultural sector, and representation of the Acadian community.

A professional artist is an artist who has received compensation from artistic activity that may reasonably be considered to be income and who meets a number of additional criteria described in the Nova Scotia Status of the Artist Legislation. These criteria include public or peer recognition, training or acquired knowledge, and the public presentation of work.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Nominees must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, and either have been born in Nova Scotia or have been resident in the province for at least the past four years.

In addition nominees:
- Must have had an impact on the province’s Acadian culture
- Must be currently active in their artistic practice
- Must agree to be nominated
- Must not have received the Grand-Pré Prize in the past

Eligible nominees can be nominated by an individual, a cultural organization or business registered or incorporated in Nova Scotia.

Nominators are encouraged to contact the Program Officer when completing the form for consultation and assistance with the nomination process.

Applications can be delivered by hand, courier or sent by regular mail but in all cases, must be either received in the Arts Nova Scotia office by 4:30 PM on the deadline date or be postmarked no later than the deadline date.

The prize will be awarded annually, unless the peer selection committee determines that there is no suitable candidate.
