Grants to British Columbia qualified donees, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations in eligible locations to benefit vulnerable residents impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Funding is intended to assist front-line community service agencies in the region of Northern British Columbia.

The ECSF will provide financial support for community services that:

  • Address a pressing social inclusion or well-being need caused or worsened by COVID-19,
  • Serve one or more vulnerable groups.

Types of Activity, as defined by ESDC, include:

  • Community outreach and engagement
  • Delivering or developing new models, tools, programming, services or resources
  • Disseminating information and knowledge
  • Volunteer engagement and recruitment

United Way of Northern BC has not established a minimum or maximum grant amount.

Term of Contract:

Funding should be used in full by March 31, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Your organization is eligible to receive funding if your organization has a charitable number or is otherwise a qualified donee (as set out by the CRA) and is providing supports and services to meet immediate community needs related to the COVID-19. Alternately, non-profit agencies that are not qualified donees may also be eligible, please contact UWNBC to inquire.

Examples of Qualified Donees include:
- Registered charities
- Registered Canadian Municipalities
- Registered municipal or public bodies performing a function of government in Canada

Organizations are eligible to complete this application if the organization:
- Is a registered charity in Canada, or other qualified donee,
- Maintains a volunteer Board of Directors that meets regularly,
- Hosts a public Annual General Meeting,
- Has financial statements that have been audited by a licensed public accountant (or financial review for charities or not-for-profits with annual revenues less than $100,000),
- Commits to providing eligible emergency supports to one or more groups of vulnerable people, as defined by ESDC, with funding used in full by March 31, 2021,
- Has not already received funding for the same activities from the Government of Canada or other source (i.e. the organization is not receiving funding for the same activity from more than one source),
- Commits that government funding for the activities proposed in this application will not exceed more than 100% (including any mix of municipal, provincial or territorial, or federal funding),
- Grants permission for this application and contact details to be shared with Community Foundations Canada and Canadian Red Cross for funding consideration and coordination

Ineligible expenditures include purchase of real property.

Pre-Application Information:

- May 19, 2020: Launch of the ECSF
- June 29, 2020: Last Date to Submit Applications.
- July 31, 2020: Announcement of all fund allocations will be made on or shortly after this date.
