Request a Grant Writer

Grants to Northwest Territories organizations for recreational programming for the community, particularly its elderly members, or to buy recreation equipment for community use. Eligible programming can take place in-person or online, so long as appropriate COVID-19 social distancing and health guidelines are followed. All equipment purchased under this grant must be available for community use for free.

There are 6 categories of grants as described below:

Community Recreation Opportunities:

  • Physically Distant Recreation Events
  • Online Recreation Events
  • Recreation Equipment 

Elder/Older Adult Recreation Opportunities:

  • Physically Distant Recreation Events
  • Online Recreation Events
  • Recreation Equipment 

You can use the grant for costs related to the events, such as:

  • Equipment purchase* or rental
  • Rental space or venue fees
  • Instructor fees
  • Event promotion and advertising
  • Healthy snacks
  • Hand sanitizers or other items to help you follow GNWT public health directives at your events

* Purchasing equipment that can be used by community members for years to come is one way to make the most out of the grant money you receive. Walking poles purchased for events, for example, can be used by the community long after the events have ended.

You can use the grant for costs related to the equipment, such as:

  • Recreation equipment purchase
  • Shipping fees
  • Sanitizing and cleaning items to help you follow GNWT public health directives when using/lending equipment

Estimated Size of Grant:

Community Recreation Opportunities:
a. Physically Distant Recreation Events: $750

Elder/Older Adult Recreation Opportunities:

b. Online Recreation Events: $500
c. Recreation Equipment: $500

Term of Contract:

Events must occur, or equipment must be purchased and used, between October 1, 2020 – March 15, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Northwest Territories organizations are eligible to apply.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications will be accepted from September 1 – October 16, 2020.

Funds are limited. Applications will be approved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All approved organizations that host events, whether online or in-person, will receive an ARC prize pack to use at their events.

Prize items may be used for participant giveaways, volunteer gifts, or as draw prizes.
