Grants to British Columbia nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for programs that give vulnerable youth foundational, educational, employment, and financial literacy support. Applicants are required to submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application. Programs must serve youth between the ages of 13 and 29 in the following areas: Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and South Okanagan.

The goal of the program is to help youth achieve what is important in their lives and build a strong financial future. CCS wants all youth to have the opportunity to reach their full potential and has a particular interest in helping vulnerable youth who face more significant challenges. Programs should address the following focus areas:

Foundational Support: Prepare youth with resources and skills to navigate life

  • Promote equity, foster inclusion, and build social connectedness
  • Develop resilience and coping skills to manage stress
  • Develop decision-making and problem-solving skills, improve self-advocacy
  • Ensure basic needs are met including safe and supportive housing and nutrition

Education Support: Help youth succeed at school

  • Promote active engagement in school to support high school completion
  • Support student preparation and transition to post-secondary

Employment Support: Preparing youth for the world of work

  • Build work readiness skills, including leadership skills
  • Provide pre-employment, self-employment training or work experience
  • Help youth earn income through co-ops or volunteer opportunities

Ongoing Financial Literacy Support: Helping youth achieve the tools, skills, and behaviors that build financial capability

  • Provide money management and budgeting skills
  • Deliver financial education and life skills training to help prepare youth for independence

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible applicants:
- Are non-profit societies, co-ops or have an approved sponsor organization
- Propose projects/programs that benefit a significant number of youth in one or more of the communities where the Foundation does business: the Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island and the South Okanagan
- Encourage innovation through new approaches, new models and new ways of making change for individuals in communities
- Demonstrate a strong track record, organizational capacity and the ability to complete their project

Generally not funded:
-Political parties or affiliated activities
-Religious activities
-Individuals seeking grants (see Youth Education Awards for help)
-Deficit or retroactive funding
-Programs or initiatives outside Coast Capital Savings' market areas
-Controversial issues
-Healthcare, health events, medical equipment, individualized therapy or counseling services
-Capital campaigns and infrastructure, (e.g., for new buildings, monuments, playgrounds, etc.)
-Capital expenses, (unless they are small expenses and are part of a broader project proposal)
-Fundraising events or projects (see Community Sponsorships for Youth for help)
-More than 70 percent of a project’s budget (in-kind contributions will be considered)
-Organizations that have not submitted satisfactory final reports from previously received Coast Capital Savings funding

Coast Capital Savings has a two-step application process. The first step is to submit an online expression of interest (EOI), which is an opportunity to pitch your program and the impact it will have on youth. Once a fit has been established with the grant guidelines, a short-list of organizations will be invited to submit a full application as part of Step 2. Applicants can request up to 70% of their project’s/ program’s overall costs, showing 30% funding from other sources, be it cash or in-kind.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong need for the program or project that is proposed for funding.
