Grants to British Columbia nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for improvements to outdoor recreation areas that are open to the public. Funding may be used for environmental enhancements, capital projects, natural space improvements, and trail development. Eligible projects are those that benefit the residents of Greater Vernon.

The Regional District of North Okanagan allocates annual grant funding that is available to not-for-profit community organizations wishing to propose ecological trail development, trail improvements, or capital projects on Greater Vernon Trails & Natural Spaces that feature publically accessible additions and improvements for the benefit of Greater Vernon residents and trail users.

This support acknowledges that:

  • Valuable projects often need "seed money" and support to get started
  • Trails & Natural Spaces build community connectedness and enjoyment
  • Successful projects can be initiated by individual or collaborative groups whose primary mandates may be unrelated to trails & natural spaces
  • The work of community organizations and the availability of enjoyable trails and natural spaces contribute to Greater Vernon's quality of life, identity, economy, and culture.

Preference will be given to those projects that demonstrate environmental impact, innovation and collaboration across sectors and interests such as the inclusion of art and culture pieces.

In order to be eligible for Greater Vernon Trails and Natural Spaces Project Grants, projects must:

  • Be open and/or accessible to the public, and reach beyond the organization's members to the broader community
  • Promote environmental stewardship
  • Enhance user experience
  • Be conducted within the budget year for the funding awarded
  • Be provided to Greater Vernon residents without exclusion to anyone by reason or religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, language, disability, or income.
